Guest Post

Hello! I’m a staff member from the wordpress blog, Followingdiscord. For my guest post here, I will switching the focus from social media, to the world of gaming

Discord is an interactive database where users can use various forms of chat through servers. It is most commonly used by individuals that consider themselves gamers. On Discord, you can share information as you could on any social media platform. There are public messages and threads as well as private messages. Discord currently has 14,000,000 million daily players and is worth over $7,000,000.
Discord was created in 2014 by a self-proclaimed Gamer Nerd, Stan Vishnevsky. He saw a need for a better interactive chat-channel for gamers as team speak competitor did not suffice. Now Discord is one of the top social networks for gamers, even beating out Twitch streaming in numbers! Gaming is being recognized as a real sport, as it is being shown on ESPN and has professional gaming leagues and teams. Discord is a place to connect to it all. Receive the latest news, keep up with your rival clan, and just have random chats about random stuff. The Discord community loves dank memes so if you enjoy surfing through the spam of the internet, created by the millennial generation, then Discord is the place for you. I use Discord to keep up with the Pokémon Go community in live time.
I have joined the ATL Go server on Discord and it connects me to a thread of downtown GSU players, that are looking to collaborate with other members of the Discord community. It is a great place to make a new friendship and network with those who hold similar interests. Many servers hold threads that have interests outside of gaming, so any person can find something interesting or funny on the discord app. This app is available for free and has cell phone version app and a desktop app, where the desktop offers more features.
Discord stands apart from more popular social media suck as Twitter and Instagram, where popularity is put on the fore front. Here, Discord users are aiming to create their own active server which is no easy feat to achieve, in respect to Instagram like social networks where the aim is to gather followers. Discord has a very simple layout in which the screen displays different servers. On your far left on the screen the servers you have joined are displayed and to the right you click through into individual threads and chats. It has a forum like feel to it and is easy to navigate for tech savvy nerds!
